We’ve been striving for a long time now to find the best locally produced goods and the most aromatic foods that have genuinely been produced and manufactured in our most immediate surroundings.
South Tyrolean delights have always been important to us at DAS GERSTL Alpine Retreat, but our guarantee is our way of ensuring that our guests are among the most environmentally responsible guests!
Gerstl’s r30 Guarantee
We, your hosts the Gerstl family, have introduced a real “At Home Guarantee” with the R30 seal. A product with this seal guarantees that it has been produced within a range of no more than 30 km. Our aim is to demonstrate our commitment to locally sourced produce and to seasonality!
Lukas Gerstl, together with his team in the kitchen, is responsible for selecting the finest suppliers from the region. It is a key concern for all of the Gerstl family that by selecting suppliers from our area in the most meticulous and environmentally-aware manner, we are also able to support the farmers and wider agricultural community in our valley. The shorter transportation routes also help protect the environment. All regional produce at Das Gerstl Alpine Retreat is labelled with the so that our guests can immediately recognise that it is locally-sourced.

Genuss Gruber
The "Genuss-Gruber" is already in its 2nd generation of producing and selling straw-smoked ham and other South Tyrolean sausage specialities, which can be enjoyed at DAS GERSTL during breakfast in the gourmet corner.

Oberfrinighof
Chicken eggs from the Oberfrinig mountain farm, located on the sunny side at an altitude of 1745 meters in the municipality of Laas. The hens are kept in animal-friendly conditions and lay eggs of exceptional freshness and quality, reflecting the alpine climate and the natural surroundings.
Quail eggs from Rojen
For our delicious dishes, we use the finest quail eggs from the idyllic Rojental in the Oberland, known for their exceptional quality and delicate flavor.
Venustis
Venustis offers a wide range of handcrafted products from South Tyrol, including exclusive chocolate and praline creations refined with local fruits such as apricots, strawberries, and raspberries. Additionally, Venustis produces exquisite jewelry made from the famous Laas marble, which is also customizable and popular as special gift ideas.

Upper Venosta Valley free-range chickens
Fresh eggs daily from Simon and his free-range wandering hens in the mobile coop. The advantage of the mobile coop is that the hens always have green pasture with fresh grass. As soon as the hens have finished grazing an area, Simon moves them to a new spot. Naturally, the high quality of the eggs can be tasted.

Fresh fruit and vegetables – locally sourced and in season. Our trusted farmers include Sunnfolt from Kortsch, Niederegghof on the Schlanderser Nördersberg, the organic Moleshof with oil mill from Prad at Stilfserjoch, and the “Hoamisch” organic farm in Laatsch and many more.
Kuntrawant Coffee
The word “Kuntrawant” derives from the Italian noun “contrabbando”, which means “smuggling”. This reference is no coincidence, since a lot of coffee was smuggled from the Grisons to the Vinschgau Valley until the 1970s. Josef Gander from Prad am Stilfserjoch continues this extraordinary history of the coffee trade in the Vinschgau and roasts "smuggler's coffee" as a matter of passion. The historic Castel Annenberg estate sits atop a rocky cone on the Sonnenberg at over 1,000 meters elevation. Along with its magnificent castle and late Gothic chapel, the property includes 50 hectares of agricultural land. Owned by the family since 2009, the focus has been placed on sustainable viticulture. The ideal climate and location allow for the cultivation of high-quality vines, producing excellent wines. The goal is to combine tradition with modern winemaking techniques and strengthen wine production for the long term.

The wine manufactory is located at 1,150 meters in Mals, one of the highest wine regions in Europe. Here, Solaris vines grow on mineral-rich soils, influenced by a unique climate of alpine freshness and Mediterranean warmth. The daily breeze shapes the microclimate and gives the wines their distinctive character. The name of the manufactory combines wine (Vin) and wind (Ventum).

In 1989, Thomas Plack took over the Lehengut estate at the foot of the Galsauner Sonnenberg at the age of 19. Today, the farm covers 5 hectares of fruit orchards and 3 hectares of vineyards. Since 2006, the farm has been managed according to organic farming principles, as sustainability and a nature-friendly approach are a top priority. This is how new, high-quality organic wines are produced in the Vinschgau region.

ENGLHORN CHEESE FACTORY
The dairy produces three types of cheese: Arunda, a soft cheese; Tella, a semi-hard cheese; and Rims, a hard cheese. The cheeses are named after the peaks of the Sesvenna group: Arunda and Tella peaks, as well as Piz Rims.

Oberrieglhof
The Oberrieglhof is situated on a steep slope and is ideally located on the sunny side of the Vinschgau valley. Here, the vineyards find the perfect conditions to fully develop and produce excellent wines. The special location provides an ideal climate and optimal sunlight, which give the wine its distinctive quality and characteristic flavor.
Josmoar
The Josmoar winery is located in Galsaun in the Vinschgau Valley, a fraction of the municipality of Kastelbell. The grapes for the wine, however, are grown in the so-called Pfaffenegg at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level. This place is known for its perfect, sunny location, protected from storms, and has been considered ideal for top-quality wines since the 13th century. Even the monks of the monastery in Karthaus (Schnalstal) sourced their wines from this area.
