CONSTRUCTION WORK ON THE RESCHEN PASS STATE ROAD B180
ALTERNATIVE DRIVING ROUTE FROM SEPTEMBER 2024
Notice for our guests: Please note that the Reschen Pass state road B180 will be temporarily closed between Kajetansbrücke/Pfunds and Nauders from September 2024 until the end of 2026 due to construction work for a rockfall gallery.
In the winter season from 19 December 2024 to 9 March 2025, two lanes will be open to traffic without restrictions.
From 10 March to 2 May 2025, there will be another full closure.
During the closure periods, we recommend using the detour route through Switzerland to avoid the affected road sections. This detour via the Engadin Road (B184) and the Martinsbruck
Road (B185) takes about 10 minutes longer than the regular route, depending on traffic.
A detailed route planner (Kajetansbrücke/Pfunds) for the detour can be found here: Google Maps Route Planner
Stress-free travel to South Tyrol by train
Travelling by train means getting on board and leaning back in your seat while enjoying the landscapes passing by or while reading a book.
Positioned in the heart of Europe, South Tyrol has a good train network, with connecting trains from Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), as well as Deutsche Bahn (DB).
Once in South Tyrol, DB/ÖBB train travellers can use the ‘Anschlussticket Südtirol’, a ticket that allows travelling with public transportation to get from the train station to their accommodation and vice versa on their day of arrival/departure. This ticket can be purchased directly on the train or at the DB travel centres located at the train stations.
Or you can travel in comfort overnight from Hamburg and Düsseldorf with the Urlaubs-Express to South Tyrol and start your holiday feeling well rested.

Several times a day connects Munich to South Tyrol without having to change trains.
Deutsche Bahn’s EC-trains take you across the Brenner/Brennero within less than four hours.
Munich’s well-connected long-distance stretches allow a comfortable arrival throughout Germany.
A good example is the new fast railway line Berlin – Munich: the ICE Sprinter connects Germany’s capital and Munich in about five hours.
Discover South Tyrol with ÖBB.
The Eurocity trains from ÖBB/DB take you from Kufstein (Austria) via Innsbruck and Brenner/Brennero directly to Franzensfeste/Fortezza, Brixen/Bressanone and to South Tyrol’s capital city, Bolzano/Bozen.
The central station of Innsbruck, which functions as the transport node point for local and long-distance traffic, connects South Tyrol with Austria’s eastern and western regions.
The combination of the ÖBB Railjet and the Eurocity train enables the arrival from for example Vienna or Bregenz with only one change of trains.
If booked in time, the ÖBB Sparschiene-tickets take you in direction of South Tyrol for a more favourable price.
From 10 December 2023, the approximately 75-kilometre route will be covered seven days a week between 6.40 a.m. and 9.17 p.m., with fourteen daily return trips by direct bus on the 273 service.
Experience a pleasant journey with the Railjet Express & Eurocity arriving from Switzerland via Innsbruck and Brenner/Brennero. From Zurich, Basle or Geneva SBB trains run several times daily.
Alternatively, enjoy the ride through the Swiss National Park and the picturesque Val Müstair. This journey starts from Landquart with the Rhaetian Railway to Zernez and then taking the PostBus to Mals/Malles in Vinschgau Valley. From there the so-called ‘Vinschgerbahn’ takes you to Meran/Merano and environs or the regional trains in all of the other regions in South Tyrol.
The ÖBB Nightjet from Hamburg or Düsseldorf takes you via Innsbruck to South Tyrol by night. Board the sleeping car in the evening and change trains in Innsbruck the next morning well rested. This way, nothing stands between you, an aperitif, and a hearty lunch south of the Alps.
ÖBB and SBB have especially favourable offers for train journeys with children.
However, the number of children travelling has to be registered on the ticket of the accompanying parent or grandparent. Therefore, do not forget to indicate the children in your booking.
Children under the age of six years can use South Tyrol’s public transportation infrastructure free of charge, whilst for the young guest under the age of fourteen years have special junior rates.
Several long-distance trains from Germany, Austria and Switzerland allow taking bicycles on board. A few of them even offer additional storage room in their luggage or bike compartment. A reservation in case of bicycle transport is required.
ÖBB offers a „door to door“– luggage transport to South Tyrol. Moreover, it is also possible to transfer your suitcases to South Tyrol with Insam Express: the courier service will pick up your baggage items at your home and then deliver them to the intended destination. The Basecamp Dolomites at the train station in Bolzano/Bozen allows storing luggage or bicycles for a few hours or several days.
The “Südtirol Transfer” shuttle runs multiple times a day. You can book it as a shared transfer from one of the nearest stations to your accommodation or choose a private transfer service that can also take you to the neartest airports.
To find out more and book the shuttle, see www.suedtiroltransfer.com.
Travellers who are interested in using an individual shuttle service or airport transfer, have the possibility to make a reservation via the new booking platform "Book your shuttle". This way the individual transfer from and to, as well as in South Tyrol, can be booked online easily and quickly.
