Autumn time is Törggelen time!
Törggelen, frequently referred to as the "fifth season", is a tradition in South Tyrol starting at the onset of October, as soon as the grape harvest is complete and the vine foliage is resplendent in shades of gold. This time is characterised by convivial get-togethers and culinary delights reflecting what the region is all about.
The term "Törggelen" is derived from "Torggl", the name given to the room in which the wine press was kept. From a historical perspective, Törggelen was closely linked to the celebration of the harvest.
These days, the festival has spread to cosy farm and tavern venues, where it has developed into a popular event drawing locals and visitors alike. Guests can savour traditional dishes such as homemade Schlutzkrapfen (ravioli), dumplings, hearty meat platters and sweet Krapfen (crescent fritters). These dishes are complemented by a fresh grape must or the new wine, the perfect way to round off the enjoyment.
You also have the opportunity to experience this wonderful tradition in DAS GERSTL style at DAS GERSTL Alpine Retreat. Guests can enjoy roasted chestnuts with an aperitif every Tuesday, on the day we celebrate R30, and immerse themselves in the warm atmosphere of Törggelen. Be enchanted by the combination of tradition and picturesque autumn scenery.
